An updated Cities in Motion Index released in March 2019, shows the development of 174 cities in the world. 

According to the index the top 10 smartest cities in the world for 2019 are:

1.     London, United Kingdom

2.     New York, United States

3.     Amsterdam, Netherlands

4.     Paris, France

5.     Reykjavik, Iceland

6.     Tokyo, Japan

7.     Singapore, Singapore

8.     Copenhagen, Denmark

9.     Berlin, Germany

10.  Vienna, Austria

The index is made up of 9 factors:

1.     Human Capital

A city that is trying to be smarter must be able to draw in and keep talented workers.

2.     Social Cohesion

The sociological dimension of a city, where citizens come together and feel like they belong.

3.     Economy

A smart city tries to have balanced economic growth in all sectors. 

4.     Governance

Refer to the effectiveness, quality, and transparency of oversight and leadership.

5.     The Environment

Environment can make or break a city.  No one wants to live in a dirty environment.

6.     Mobility and Transportation

As growth comes, it is challenging for every city to keep movement easy and accessible.

7.     Urban Planning

A lack of urban planning directly affects quality of life, investment, transportation, and more.

8.     International Outreach

With global reach increasingly important are you a city that impacts the world?

If a city does not utilize technology effectively, there is no way of growing efficiently.
