CitiIQ Expands Leadership Team

Milton Friesen joins CitiIQ as General Manager

TORONTO, May 6, 2020 - CitiIQ , a revolutionary cloud-based system that measures the overall health and well-being of cities, welcomes Milton Friesen as its new General Manager. He brings significant experience and is highly respected for his aptitude in and knowledge of cities.

Milton has spent more than 12 years working on think tank, public policy, and research projects related to city planning. His particular emphasis has been on advancing civil society organizational measurement and design. He is skilled in expanding key institutional and leadership networks to support a better understanding of how cities function. This capability will enable CitiIQ to increase the adoption of their platform globally.

“With an array of exciting opportunities ahead of us, we are thrilled to have Milton join CitiIQ as its operational leader,” said Donald E. Simmonds, CEO of CitiIQ. “Building on our talented core team is a priority and Milton’s depth and capability is a strong, well-timed addition.”

Milton has been actively involved in teaching and research activities at the University of Waterloo, School of Planning. He expects to defend his dissertation this summer with a focus on social data in urban settings.

At a previous point in his career Milton served as an elected municipal official and participated on numerous community boards. He has delivered key reports on the social design of new organizations, strategic design for the charitable sector and improved evaluation of for-profit firm performance. Network mapping and analytics have also featured in his work.

Milton has demonstrated an ability to work in these dynamic contexts, having served on the steering committee of the Thriving Cities Project at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture (University of Virginia) and as a member of the Program Committee for the Computational Social Sciences Society of the Americas.

“I’m really looking forward to working with such a strong team to tackle the pressing challenges of getting high quality data to city decision-makers as they serve citizens around the world,” said Friesen. “The vision of CitiIQ is compelling,” he added.
